The rubric is an evaluation instrument that serves to evaluate the performance of students when they carry out an activity or task, contemplating various aspects.
It is an assessment matrix in which the criteria and indicators of skills are established through the use of scales to determine the quality of the student’s performance. It allows obtaining a grade measured using different evaluation criteria.
Assessment with rubrics has distinct advantages for teachers and students. One of these advantages is that they propose and make known, from the beginning and throughout the process, the evaluation criteria of a task or activity.
Another advantage is that they show the development expectations of the different activities in relation to the different degrees of achievement. They also reduce subjectivity in assessments and make it easier for students to understand exactly which aspects of the activity they have done correctly and which they need to improve on, better understanding their weaknesses and strengths.
All of this increases the transparency of the evaluation, and gives greater feedback to the students, within the framework of a formative and continuous assessment.
