In total, he identified <strong>eight intelligences: linguistic, musical, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, bodily-kinesthetic, intrapersonal, interpersonal, and naturalistic.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Gardner, people develop some intelligences more than others, which is why we should move away from a single concept of intelligence. The theory highlights that <strong>everyone possesses all intelligences, but some are more dominant than others.<\/strong> For example, a child may have a strong grasp of mathematical calculations but lack athletic ability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gardner\u2019s theory sparked a debate on the need to change the educational paradigm\u2014moving away from a system focused mainly on linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligences, toward one that embraces the full range of intelligences proposed in his theory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"901\" height=\"496\" src=\"https:\/\/additioapp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-9.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-33556\" srcset=\"https:\/\/additioapp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-9.png 901w, https:\/\/additioapp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-9-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/additioapp.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-9-768x423.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 901px) 100vw, 901px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Image by Freepik<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:70px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is musical intelligence and what are its main characteristics?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, getting into the main topic of this article, we\u2019ll focus on how to develop musical intelligence in the classroom, bringing out the best in our students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But first\u2014what exactly is musical intelligence?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Gardner, musical intelligence is the<strong> ability to perceive, understand, create, and express music.<\/strong> In other words, it\u2019s the ability to process and appreciate auditory information, as well as sensitivity to rhythm, pitch, and timbre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past few decades, research has shown that music education has a highly positive impact on learning and significantly influences cognitive, academic, and emotional development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although many believe that musical intelligence only develops in people with formal musical training, this isn\u2019t the case. Some of these include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Curricular limitations:<\/strong> In countries like Spain, the official time allocated to arts-related subjects is very limited compared to subjects that focus on linguistic or logical-mathematical competencies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Diverse learning paces:<\/strong> In addition to the limited hours dedicated to arts and music, there\u2019s a wide variety of abilities and learning rhythms within a single classroom. This means any teacher, regardless of subject, can work on musical intelligence in the classroom. Here are some ideas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Create an environment filled with music and rhythm:<\/strong> Music isn\u2019t just for music class\u2014you can incorporate it into other moments throughout the school day. For example, you might set aside five minutes for meditation during the day, with relaxing music playing in the background.
