That\u2019s why it\u2019s important to address SDG 7 in the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SDG 7 invites us to reflect and take action to ensure affordable and safe energy for everyone. They are a set of 17 global goals that aim to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and ensure the well-being of all people by 2030. These goals are interdependent and address economic, social, and environmental challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 17 SDGs are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No poverty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Zero hunger<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Good health and well-being<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quality education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gender equality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clean water and sanitation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Affordable and clean energy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Decent work and economic growth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Industry, innovation, and infrastructure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reduced inequalities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sustainable cities and communities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Responsible consumption and production<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Climate action<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Life below water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Life on land<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Peace, justice, and strong institutions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Partnerships for the goals<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Working on them in the classroom is a way to prepare students to become critical, engaged citizens who are capable of transforming their environment. This doesn\u2019t just mean having electricity available\u2014it means that electricity must come from<strong> clean sources like solar, wind, or hydro power, reducing emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Energy is essential for nearly everything: from education and healthcare to agriculture, communication, and transport. However, millions of people around the world still lack access to electricity or depend on polluting technologies. Although electricity access has improved in recent years, if we don\u2019t accelerate the pace, more than 600 million people will still be without energy by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, energy is essential to prevent diseases and fight pandemics. It powers healthcare facilities, provides clean water, and helps keep people connected while maintaining social distancing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, SDG 7 also promotes improving energy efficiency, investing in sustainable infrastructure, and developing policies that encourage the energy transition. Calculate your energy footprint<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A great way to raise awareness about energy consumption is to encourage your students to calculate their energy footprint. What does that mean? It involves estimating a person\u2019s daily energy use\u2014cooking, transportation, work, heating, use of electronic devices, and so on. There are many ways to calculate it, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/actnow.aworld.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Act Now mobile app<\/a> offers a simple option. To boost motivation, you can create workgroups to do it collaboratively.
