In today’s society, the concept of a school offering bilingual education, or at least implementing a bilingual education program, is becoming increasingly relevant. We live in a more globalized world with greater interaction between countries and cultures, where knowledge (and especially mastery) of languages has become an essential requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this post, we analyze the importance of bilingual education, the reasons why a school should consider implementing a bilingual education program, and tips to do it successfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You’ve probably heard about it, as it’s a term that has become popular in recent years in the current educational context. But do you know exactly what it entails?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bilingual education is a pedagogical approach that aims to help students develop linguistic competencies in two (or more) languages by using academic subjects as a core tool. This allows students to develop both linguistic and academic skills simultaneously, as certain subjects are taught in a language other than their native one. In this way, the foreign language becomes the medium of learning, rather than just the object of learning (as is the case with traditional language classes).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are many models of bilingual education, but some of the main ones include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transitional model<\/strong>: It starts by combining the native language with the language that will eventually become dominant, transitioning to an education where subjects are taught in the foreign (or dominant) language.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
